Prices checked

Short answer

The Canon imageRUNNER 2425 and 2425i are the same copier inside: same 25-page-a-minute speed, same A3 printing, Wi-Fi, two-sided printing, touchscreen and C-EXV 60 toner. The only difference is that the 2425i comes with a 50-sheet automatic document feeder, so you can copy or scan a stack of pages, both sides, without standing at the machine. In Ghana in October 2026, the 2425 was listed at GH₵13,275 to GH₵25,800 and the 2425i at GH₵16,000 to GH₵29,800.

Which should you buy?

Choose the Canon imageRUNNER 2425 if…

you mostly print from computers and only copy or scan the odd single page. You save money and the machine is smaller and lighter. Check whether a document feeder can be added later before you rely on that.

Choose the Canon imageRUNNER 2425i if…

you copy or scan multi-page documents: contracts, exam papers, reports, receipts. The feeder turns a 20-page job into one button press and also scans both sides automatically. For most schools, offices and print shops, it's the one to get.

What does the "i" in 2425i mean?

On these two models, the "i" means the copier comes with a duplexing automatic document feeder (DADF) on top instead of a plain lid. You drop up to 50 pages into the feeder and the machine copies or scans them one after another, turning each page over to capture both sides.

It does not mean the 2425i has network or Wi-Fi and the 2425 doesn't. According to Canon's specifications, both have Ethernet and Wi-Fi, automatic two-sided printing, a 7-inch touchscreen and the same print speed. This is worth knowing, because sellers sometimes describe the difference incorrectly.

Is the document feeder worth paying for?

Think about how you'll use the machine day to day. Without a feeder, copying a 10-page document means lifting the lid, placing a page, pressing copy and repeating ten times. Copying both sides of each page doubles that. With the feeder, you load the stack once.

For a busy office, school or print shop, that time adds up every single day, and the feeder pays for itself quickly. If the copier will mostly print documents sent from computers, the plain 2425 does that job just as well.

Why do prices differ so much between sellers?

Look closely at what each listing includes. Some 2425 listings in Ghana include a feeder, stand or starter toner; some 2425i listings include a cabinet or extra paper cassette; others are the bare machine. A higher price isn't always a worse deal if more comes in the box.

Before you pay, ask for a written quote that lists everything included, who will install it and what servicing costs. Our 12 questions to ask before buying a photocopier cover it.

What will they cost to run?

Both use the same Canon C-EXV 60 toner, rated by Canon at about 10,200 pages at 6% coverage, so running costs are identical. The table above works out the approximate cost per page from current toner prices in Ghana. Real pages with logos, photos or dense text use more toner. Compare current toner prices and use the cost-per-page calculator with your own monthly volume.

One caution: Canon India sells a 2425 version that uses different toner. If a machine has been imported from Asia, confirm which toner it takes before buying.

Before you pay

Before you buy a photocopier: what to check

An office copier is one of the most expensive things a small business buys, and the price on the listing is rarely the whole story. Ask these before you pay anything.

  1. Get a written quote that lists everything included. Document feeder, stand or cabinet, starter toner, delivery, installation and network setup can each add hundreds or thousands of cedis. Compare like with like.

  2. Ask who services it, and how fast. A copier will need a technician at some point. Ask who will come, how quickly, what a call-out costs, and whether there's a service contract.

  3. Check the toner is easy to find in Ghana, and what it costs. Toner is your biggest running cost. Find the toner code, check local prices and work out the cost per page before you commit.

  4. Ask about the warranty, in writing. What it covers (parts, labour, drum), for how long, and who honours it: the seller, or the manufacturer's local partner.

  5. For a used or refurbished machine, see the page counter. Ask the seller to show the total count on screen or print a counter report. A high count means expensive parts are due soon.

  6. See it working before you pay. Make test copies from the glass and the document feeder, try every tray and check for streaks or smudges.

  7. Never pay a deposit for a machine you haven't seen. Especially on marketplace listings. Pay at the seller's premises, against a receipt.
