Why does cost per page matter more than price?
A printer is bought once but fed for years. A cheap desktop printer with small cartridges can cost several times more per page than an office copier or an ink tank printer. At a few thousand pages a month, that difference quickly outweighs whatever you saved upfront.

How do you calculate cost per page?
Divide the toner cartridge price by the number of pages it is rated for. If the drum is a separate part, add the drum price divided by its page life. For colour, add the cost per page of each colour toner.
What is a good cost per page for an office printer?
It depends on the machine class. Office copiers and high-capacity toners usually cost far less per page than small desktop printers with low-yield cartridges, which is why a cheap printer can be the most expensive to run.
Why does my toner run out sooner than the rated yield?
Rated yields are measured at about 5% coverage, roughly a short letter. Pages with photos, logos, shading or dense text use more toner, so real-world yields are usually lower.
