Before you pay
Before you buy a large format printer: what to check
Banner printers are big, costly machines that need space, power and skill. Ask these before committing.
Confirm the printing width and the number of heads. A 6ft and a 10ft machine serve different jobs; two heads print faster than one. Pay for what your customers will actually order.
Ask what ink it uses and what it costs. Eco-solvent ink is a running cost you'll buy every week. Get prices up front.
Ask about installation, training and after-sales support. Who installs it, trains your operator and comes out when it breaks down?
Check print head availability and price. Replacement heads are expensive. Make sure they're stocked locally.
Plan the space and ventilation. These machines are long and eco-solvent printing needs a ventilated room.
Inspect used machines very carefully. Blocked heads and worn parts are common on second-hand banner printers. See it print a full-width test first.
