Short answer
What should a home or student printer do?
Before looking at models, think about what you'll actually print:
- Assignments and reports with charts or pictures need colour.
- Copying ID cards, certificates and forms needs a scanner, so get an all-in-one.
- Printing from a phone needs Wi-Fi.
- How often you print matters too. Ink can dry in an inkjet that sits unused for weeks; a laser printer doesn't have that problem.
Most families and students tick colour, copy and Wi-Fi, which points to an ink tank all-in-one.
Best overall: an ink tank all-in-one
Ink tank printers are refilled from bottles that print thousands of pages, so each page costs very little. The three most popular in Ghana all print, copy and scan in colour over Wi-Fi:
- [Epson EcoTank L3250](/prices/epson/ecotank-l3250): the most widely sold, so ink and help are easy to find. Compact, with no screen; you set it up with Epson's phone app.
- [Canon PIXMA G3410](/prices/canon/pixma-g3410): pigment black ink gives sharp text, and Canon rates the black bottle at about 6,000 pages.
- [HP Smart Tank 581](/prices/hp/smart-tank-581): the fastest of the three on black pages (12 a minute, ISO) and prints from phones without extra apps.

Best for black and white only: a small laser printer
If you mostly print essays and notes in black and white, a laser printer is faster, gives crisp text and won't clog if you don't print for a month. The HP LaserJet 108a is one of the cheapest, but it only prints and connects by USB. If you also need to copy and scan, look at the HP LaserJet M141w, which adds Wi-Fi, or the Canon i-SENSYS MF3010. Compare them in our cheap laser printer comparison.
What does it cost to keep printing?
The printer is a one-off cost; ink or toner is forever. Before you buy, find out what the replacement ink or toner costs and how many pages it prints. Ink tank bottles usually work out at a few pesewas a page; small laser cartridges cost more per page but last well if you print rarely.

What to check before you pay
- Sealed box and starter ink included. Ask, and check before you leave the shop.
- Which ink it takes. Epson and Canon sell different ink codes in different regions, and Ghana's shops stock both. Make sure the right ink is sold near you.
- Keep the receipt for the warranty.
- Print a test page if the shop will let you.
- Prices far below other sellers can mean an imported, refurbished or fake unit. Compare against our printer prices.
Questions people ask
What is the best printer for students in Ghana?
For most students, an ink tank all-in-one such as the Epson L3250, Canon G3410 or HP Smart Tank 581: it prints colour cheaply, copies and scans, and works over Wi-Fi. If you only print black and white text occasionally, a small laser printer like the HP LaserJet 108a is cheaper.
How much is a good home printer in Ghana?
In October 2026, the lowest prices we found were GH₵2,500 for the Epson L3250, GH₵2,400 for the Canon G3410 and GH₵2,100 for the HP Smart Tank 581. New ink tank printers overall ranged from GH₵2,100 to GH₵16,800.
Is a laser or ink tank printer better for home use?
An ink tank is better for colour, photos and mixed use at a low cost per page. A laser printer is better if you print mostly black and white text and may not use the printer for weeks, because toner doesn't dry out.
Can I print from my phone?
Yes, with a Wi-Fi printer. The Epson L3250, Canon G3410, HP Smart Tank 581 and HP LaserJet M141w all support printing from phones. The HP LaserJet 108a and Canon MF3010 are USB only.
